Managing partner Sergei Slagoda participated in the International Conference of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers titled “The Future of the Legal Profession and the Bar”

17 May 2012 On May 16, 2012, in the run-up to the International Legal Forum, the International Conference of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers titled “The Future of the Legal Profession and the Bar” was held at the Faculty of Law of St.-Petersburg State University. The Conference coincided with 10th anniversary of Federal Law “On Advocacy and the Bar in the Russian Federation”.


The Conference was attended by representatives of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the RF and multiple international chambers of lawyers, including: Yevgeny Vasilyevich Semenyako (President of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the RF), Genri Markovich Reznik (Vice-president of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the RF, President of the Moscow Chamber of Lawyers), Axel Filges (President of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of Germany), Akira Kavamura (President of The International Bar Association - IBA), and John Wotton (President of The Law Society of England & Wales). Aleksandr Vladimirovich Konovalov, Minister of Justice of the RF and Eric Holder, Attorney General of the United States, attended the Conference and delivered welcome addresses to participants. 


The conference was dedicated to topical issues of development and interaction of domestic and international lawyers, issues relating to standards of advocacy, pros and cons of commercialization of legal profession. It should be noted that the Conference was very interesting and informative. Representatives of diverse lawyer communities from multiple jurisdictions had an opportunity to inform their colleagues about specificities of regulation of legal activity in their countries, and to share successful experience in advocacy.
